Uploading embroidery ESA fonts

Uploading embroidery ESA fonts

The EWA API allows customers to upload and use their own fonts. Uploaded fonts are tested by Wilcom engineers, encoded for compatibility with the API Embroidery Engine, and restricted for use by the specific API customer. Below are the key rules and recommendations.

Creating a Wilcom font

  1. Fonts are created in Wilcom EmbroideryStudio using the Font Creator Element.
  2. Each letter must be digitized and added manually.
  3. Fonts are saved as ESA files.
  4. Detailed instructions are in the EmbroideryStudio online help or reference manual.

Font size considerations

  1. Embroidery fonts cannot be freely scaled like graphic fonts.
  2. Enlarging or reducing them too much will reduce stitch quality.
  3. Website developers should limit scaling options for end users, keeping fonts within recommended size ranges.

  1. Customers must ensure uploaded fonts are not copyright protected.
  2. Wilcom does not check copyright status.
  3. Responsibility lies with the customer, as outlined in the Terms and Conditions.
  4. Font owners actively monitor the web for copyright infringement.

Double-byte (Asian) fonts

  1. The API supports double-byte characters – e.g. Chinese, Japanese, Thai.
  2. File names must use English letters and numbers only for upload.
  3. Customers can still display proper names in their original language by mapping English filenames to local display names.

API engine version

  1. Font protection is only available in Engine V4.5.
  2. API calls must point to: http://ewa.wilcom.com/4.5
  3. Older engines – e.g. V2.0 – do not protect fonts, meaning uploaded fonts may be accessible to all V2.0 users.
