About EmbroideryStudio product keys
This article explains what EmbroideryStudio product keys are, when they are required, and how they work.
Most EmbroideryStudio licenses do not require a product key. If you purchase or download EmbroideryStudio directly from the Wilcom website, your license is automatically associated with the Wilcom Account used for the purchase. Simply sign in with that account after installing the software.
A product key is only required in certain situations, such as when EmbroideryStudio is purchased:
- through an authorized Wilcom reseller
- at a trade show or retail outlet
- as part of an embroidery machine package
- through another promotion where a product key is supplied.
If you receive a product key, follow the instructions in Activate product (individuals) or Activate product (organizations).
What is a product key?
A product key is a unique, one-time-use activation code that activates an EmbroideryStudio license. Product keys look similar to this:

A product key and a license are not the same thing:
- A product key is an activation code used once to create or update a license.
- A license is the entitlement that allows you to use the software after activation.
- Once a product key has been activated, you continue to manage the resulting license through Wilcom Account Management rather than using the product key again.
When do I use my product key?
You can activate your product key after EmbroideryStudio has been installed. After successful activation:
- Your license is associated with your Wilcom Account.
- You sign in using your Wilcom Account rather than the product key.
- The product key is no longer required.
Can I use a product key more than once?
No.
A product key can only be activated once. After it has been used, it cannot be reused to activate another license.
Your license remains associated with your Wilcom Account, not with the product key.
